Ron Sims was born in Burnham on Crouch and trained at Colchester School of Art before post-graduate studies at Manchester School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools. His style was indelibly influenced by his tutors, Eduardo Paolozzi, William Scott and Peter Blake. Early in his career he experimented with ‘hard-edge’ painting and paired-down design to create a highly original modernist style of representation through complimentary plains of colour, he continued to refine this distinct style throughout his career.
Ron Simms enjoyed a long and successful career, exhibiting extensively at the Royal Academy, Mall Galleries, Burlington Fine Art, as well as locally at The Minories, Chappel Galleries, Gainsborough House and elsewhere. He taught printmaking at Colchester Art School and was President of the Colchester Art Society. He worked in a range of medium throughout his career, taking inspiration from a broad range of subjects including popular culture and nature, his playful painting titles often offer a ‘reveal’ to the audience.
Reeman Dansie have sold a number of works from the estate of Ron Simms which are always highly contested at auction.
