Reeman Dansie’s first Fine Art & Antiques auction of the year was a great success; a new house record for online bidders was made, with over 1800 people registered for the three-day sale, alongside our regular room bidders. Notable lots of day one included a William de Morgan ruby lustre charger with a stylised fish design (lot 22, £5842). In the silver section, a Japanese silver and mixed metal vase sold for above its estimate to a phone bidder for £4700 (lot 384). Watches and jewellery were as popular as ever, with highlights including a rare Rolex gold concealed 20 dollar coin watch (lot 700, £6350).

Paintings featured strongly amongst the top selling lots on day two of the sale, with one of the highlights being an early abstract work by British artist Trevor Bell (lot 1144, £7874). A captivating portrait of a woman by Rowley Smart sold for above estimate at £7874 (lot 1209), its Bloomsbury style attracting a great deal of interest. The highest price of the day was set by a bronze sculpture by Louis Barye, which sold to a continental bidder for £17,780 (lot 966).

The David Smith collection attracted the interest it undoubtedly deserved on day three of the sale. While three Lucy Harwood pictures all sold well, there were strong prices set for vernacular and painted furniture, including £3175 for David’s oak four-poster bed (lot 1749), and £2159 for an 18th century Swedish cupboard (lot 1501).

We’d like to thank everyone who attended the auction and bid online. Our next Fine Art & Antiques sale will be in April, and will feature an East Anglian Art section. We invite entries from now until 8th April. See how to sell with us below.
