We feature a dedicated musical instruments section in each of our Collector’s auctions. This department is overseen by Daniel Wright and Thomas Flatt who have specialist knowledge in this field and are always happy to appraise items with no obligation for sale. The musical instrument sections of our Collector’s sales typically feature 50-100 lots of instruments and frequently include private collections and rare and antique pieces. In recent years highlights have included instruments from the collection of Cream guitarist Jack Bruce, a 19th century continental violin with label for Ludovicus Ricozali which sold for £1400 in 2019, a handmade lute which sold for £520 in 2020 (as part of the entire contents of a music shop) and a Gibson Les Paul Standard electric guitar which achieved £1400 in 2023.
Vinyl collecting has increased exponentially in recent years and at Reeman Dansie we offer vendors and collectors an ideal marketplace through our regular Collector’s sales, where records are sold a sub-section on day three of these quarterly auctions. Records are a notoriously difficult collecting field where subtleties in production and condition can make a dramatic difference to desirability and value, we utilise the skills of a highly experienced vinyl consultant to ensure that any rarities are given due attention. Lots can comprise individual records or groups which we tend to theme by genre or period, we also regularly feature Rock and Pop memorabilia. We are alive to the fact that many households have record collections and most won’t be aware of the value potential.
